From the garden.....

All this great weather has brought the garden on in leaps and bounds, veg, flowers and most of all weeds! Except for the parsnips, all the veggies are now planted in the veggie boxes as the last of the frosts are now hopefully past. We've been eating salad nearly every night for the last week, it's fab!
We're having a big family get together next month as we have family over visiting from NZ, so I'm hoping we might have some new potatoes ready for eating and plenty of salads, fingers crossed we might even have some fresh peas..........
I just need to get those second sowings done now.........! What veggies are you all growing?

My boyfriend's mum got us a tomato plant kit, not sure how successful it will be but we're giving it a go. Also got some herbs - all grown in the kitchen as we have no garden :-(

Hi Lisa,

It all sounds delicious - I adore new potatoes, but they have a really short season here - about three weeks and they're gone!

Sadly, we don't have a garden and I don't have much success growing herbs indoors, but I have managed to keep a bay laurel alive and actually bought a second one at last week's Herb Fair. I have this vision in my mind of our dream house with two bay trees...

Just tomatoes I'm afraid, but there's a patch at the back of the garden that's just calling out for a raised bed. We'll see ...

Hi Lisa,

Fab posts - your trip looks fun. We went to Colonsay last year and it was wonderful - over 3 hours by boat and you feel a million miles from anyone. Beautiful empty beaches too!nemacwilson@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks for the tip for Hong Kong, we will look out for the Peak cafe.
We have also been told by some friends to go for drinks at the Pennisula Hotel, apparently it is 'the' hotel in Hong Kong. Getting so excited just now.
Your salad looks lovely, home grown as well!!
Do post some picture of your family gathering, hopefully we will see your home grown potatoes.
Must shoot have a fitting for my wedding dress shortly.

Your greens look scrumptious! This year we're growing all sorts--various salad leaves, courgettes, tomatoes, fennel, red beets, bok choy, butternut squash, savoy cabbage, and lots of herbs. Here in Norway the growing season is short, so I hope we get to sample all of this before the cold comes! Happy Gardening! :o)

Sounds like everyone is busy with a bit of growing, whatever it may be!

We're growing potatoes, early Duke of Yorks, broccoli, purple sprouting broccoli, kale, courgettes, parsnips, carrots, radish, peas, various lettuce, rocket, onions, tomatoes, basil.........think that's everything? ooh and strawbs.

Poppy, we went to "The Peninsula" for afternoon tea, an absolute must when you're visiting HK, but you have to book and wear the appropriate attire!!! Brings back memories, that was almost 7 years ago!!!

Those salad leaves look devine. My garden is to small for a veggie patch but I do grow alot of herbs and strawberries in amongst my flower beds and in pots on the patio.

fresh salad's fab but my rockets well behind yours, it seems reluctant to grow! But I've got pea flowers so getting ready for evenings sat on the patio shelling peas soon!

Hi Lisa,
we are having so much fun growing stuff and my man is really getting into it this year ( has always been my thing previously). We have succesfully grown spinach, rocket, basil, raspberries and gooseberries so far and in the ground but a way to go are cucumber, tomatoes, carrots, garlic, spring onions, potatoes, french beans, sweetcorn and lettuce. Sounds like loads but only a few of each so it's a real experiment this year... if it works it'll be great.. Good luck with all yours.

Your vegetable garden sounds wonderful, I only have a couple of tomato plants plus herbs, soft fruit and fruit trees. Though since I aspire to a cottage garden I really ought to have some veg in there!

We are eating lots of salad, carrots, peas and new potatoes that we grew in the polytunnel. One of Gwenny's friends came over, I asked her if she wanted some peas, so I gave her some pea pods and she just looked at them. I told her to open them , and she was amazed to see the peas inside. Her dad later told me that she'd only ever had frozen peas !
